It’s #FitTuesday again and today I want to talk about motivation. What are some of the things that keep you motivated to stay in the gym or stick to your diet. Its not easy. I know I have talked about this before but today I do this hoping to motivate somebody. I receive a lot of emails, some with questions some just to say thank you and others well just to talk to me and tell me their stories.
I received an email from Irene (not her real name) who said she started her fitness journey because of her brother. Early this year he got into a car accident was in a coma for three days and when he got out of it, it was hard. He couldn’t speak well, move his fingers or even walk. He was in the hospital for about a month and was released still on a wheel chair. He would sit in the house depressed, crying sometimes. He lost his job and didn’t want to see anyone because he was ashamed of how he looked. So what did she do? She took time off work plus a couple of sick days to take care of her brother. (Her boss was very understanding). She worked from home. She would help her brother with his physio. She would massage him; help him up and down the stairs. In no time they were walking in the neighborhood. And then at the gym. You see Irene weighed about 97Kgs when she started walking with her brother. They ate the same food. They did the same workouts too. So when they joined the gym together, hewas paired with a personal trainer who was trained in his field and knew exactly how to help Irene’s brother. She decided to start her workouts doing cardio alone. And later she started weights with the personal trainer when her brother was able to do some weights. Fast forward to today: Irene weighs 65kgs after eight months working out. And even though she wanted to give up she found her motivation from her brother who is doing well. He can walk, run, his speech is so much better and he got a new job. And yes they still work out together. Moral of the story is she didn’t give up on her brother and he didn’t give up on himself. He had his sister who he calls his best friend.
If you are going through a similar situation don’t give up. I hope this motivates you or you can look for the story of Arthur Boorman. That will definitely motivate you.
Go and motivate somebody today
